April Happenings

April can't fool you much, especially with the variety of events in Yuma to keep you busy. Websites like YumaCalender.org and eventsinyuma.com offer numerous dates and information on events happening in the community.

April 1: "April Fool's Day" is traditionally known as the to play a trick on someone and claim "April fools" in the end.

April 2: Julieanna's Cafeat 1951 W. 25th Street will be hosting a jazz concert by the Yuma Jazz Company for all customers to come experience fine dining along with great music for a romantic evening. They will be appearing on Friday's of April 2, 16, and 30, at 7:00 p.m.

April 7: The Cultural Council of Yuma is pleased to offer "Guitar Essential Workshops" presented by local Folkloric Dance Instructor Lupita Ayala. The workshops will be held April 7, 14, 21 & 28, at 4:00 p.m at the cost of $15.00. This will be held at the Yuma Art Center, 254 South Main Street.

April 10: The Hilton Garden Inn will be hosting an Angels of Light Beauty Pageant for girls' ages 1 to 18 years. The cost is $35.00 and runs Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The contest includes cash prizes, three age categories, and a special needs division all at an affordable rate.

April 14: Even with our economic crisis going on there are still hopes out there for those in need of a job. Goodwill of Central Arizona will be hosting a job fair from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Yuma Main Library. The cost is free and they also offer resume assistance or an opportunity to make copies for free.

April 17: The Jason Howell Memorial Scholarship Committee will be hosting The Jason Howell Memorial Bike Run & Show starting at 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $25.00 and proceeds go to The Jason Howell Scholarship fund which promotes professional growth and leadership for high school students entering Arizona Western College majoring in technological, industrial, and vocational programs. Sign-up begins at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Bobby's Territorial Harley Davidson at 2550 E. Gila Ridge Road with the event & show starting at 11:00 a.m. at Julieanna's Patio Cafeat 1951 W. 25th Street.

April 17: Also on April 17 the American Cancer Society will be hosting its annual "Relay For Life." It will be held at the Desert Sun Stadium at 1280 West Desert Sun Drive from 5:00 p.m. to Sunday at 12:00 a.m. It is an overnight experience fighting back cancer and promoting "Cancer Never Sleeps." The event is free for all and will host 80 teams and 1,200 participants walking in the Relay Fashion.

April 22: "Go Green" is the theme for today. The AWC Main Campus Sci/Ag Building will be hosting its Sustainability Fair on Earth Day from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The fair will host vendors who will give out ideas and ways to "Go Green" and help our environment.
