Maria Martinez, a high school senior at Gila Ridge, will receive the Presidential Teacher of the Year Scholarship, chosen by this year's AWC Teacher of the Year, Math Professor George Montopoli. The annual scholarship goes to an outstanding high school student residing within the college district who intends to enter AWC the next year, or to a continuing AWC student. Martinez, who is interested in a career in law enforcement, is an artist and is actively involved in karate and track.
