Coach Smith said,
We played the two teams that played in the national championship game last year. We had more focus than previous games, and it showed tonight.

In a kickoff attempt, Blinn returner Isaiah Battle lost control of the football, with AWC's Nathan Mayfield coming out of the mashup with the ball. But the refs ruled Battle was down and Blinn regained possession.

With only one loss, the Matadors made their way to a bowl game for the second year in a row, something they haven't done since the early 1980's.
